Panton designed the first ever chair consisting of a single element, formed from plastic, availablVere in different colors. The S chair became Panton's best-known and most widely produced design.
He created innovative and futuristic designs using numerous materials (especially plastics) and vivid colours. His style was very much rooted in the 1960s, but regained its popularity at the end of the 20th century.
